Japan Wine Challenge Trophy Winner 2010

International recognition for Hart of the Barossa

Hart of the Barossa is a premium organic wine brand produced by Vintners Michael and Alisa Hart, custodians of the oldest certified organic vineyard in the Barossa Valley.

Following their coveted gold medal win at the International Organic Wine Show, their 2008 Limited Release Shiraz won the Trophy for Best Organic / Biodynamic Wine at the 2010 Japan Wine Challenge in Tokyo. With over 1,400 wines from 23 different countries, the Japan Wine Challenge is now firmly established as Asia's most prestigious wine competition.

Under the continued Chairmanship of Steven Spurrier (Consultant Editor, Decanter Magazine) and with Co-Chair Lynne Sherriff MW (Deputy Vice Chair of the Institute of Masters of Wine), top international wine figures judged outstanding wines and got wonderful results. This year’s judges included, as in past years, top international wine figures such as Michel Bettane from France, Rowald Hepp from Germany, Jim Harre from New Zealand, Andrew Caillard MW and Alex Hudax from Australia, David Wrigley MW from UK, and Andy Dias Blue from USA.

The Awards Ceremony took place on Friday 16th July at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo, Roppongi. Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado presented the Trophies.

“The recognition of our wine at international level confirms our commitment to producing premium wine, using sustainable farming practices,” said Michael and Alisa Hart. Our aim is to produce the best nature can offer using old fashioned farming principles blended with modern winemaking techniques. We are passionate about our organic point of difference and so are our growing number of customers worldwide.
