Superbly ripe and inviting with blackberry, plum jam, vanillin oak and cocoa characters on the nose; and a lovely seasoning of fragrant spice. It’s succulent and plush on the palate, delivering terrific fruit richness backed silky tannins, finishing impressively long and satisfying.
An expressive Shiraz. Bright and fragrant with lifted aromatics of ripe blackberry and plum. Layers of vanilla and spice aromas, fruit cake and mocha. Harmonious balance, easy drinking, full bodied Barossa Shiraz.
The palate is full-bodied and greets you with juicy red-black fruits followed by toasty hazel-nutty oak and chocolate. Well structured, this is a complex wine with fruit at the fore but background oak in support.
Deep purple-crimson; this medium-bodied shiraz was matured in exactly measured French and American oak, and is a class act; it oozes red and black fruits, but has a positively elegant back-palate and finish; sparklets of spice and licorice lead the flavour dance.
Bless this wine for it makes clear the argument that old vines, in this case 100+ years, are distinctive & distinguished. The full-bodied palate is glossy and seamless, the tannins velvety and powerful, & the finish long. In between there's licorice, sweet oak & a core of exceptional fruit. Quite glorious. Intense blackberried fruit comes stitched with dried herbs and particularly earthen notes; toasty oak both sweetens and extends the flavours; and then the finest, classiest tannin pulls it all through to an ultra persistent finish. A class.
The colour is excellent, and the seamless fusion between the bouquet and palate likewise; the French oak is obvious, but I don't have the slightest doubt it will sink back into intense red and black cherry fruit given time. Send a bottle to Guigal.
